(updated and effective April 2015)
All MEF-CECP certifications are valid for a period of 3 years from the "certification date", the date on which the exam was passed and the certification issued. Each MEF-CECP will be able to renew his or her certification at any time by taking and passing the current version of the MEF-CECP examination.

All MEF-CECP certifications (MEF-CECP and MEF-CECP 2.0) are now called MEF-CECP. Certificates issued under that name are still active but will be referred to as MEF-CECP.

Individuals that have been issued the MEF-CECP or MEF-CECP 2.0 certification since the launch of the program in July 2011 will continue to be listed in the Ethernet Academy registry regardless of the status of their certification which is now indicated as Active or InactiveActive means that the certification was issued less than 3 years from the current date and remains valid. Inactive indicates that the certification is older than 3 years, is no longer valid, and has not been renewed. There is a grace period for certifications that were issued prior to January 1, 2013. These will not become Inactive until January 1, 2016.

The MEF will notify individuals whose MEF-CECP certifications are nearing expiration and will offer a US$100 discount on the exam (first attempt) to any individuals wishing to renew their MEF-CECP certifications prior to expiration date. When renewing a MEF-CECP certification, the MEF Certified Professional will be taking the same current MEF-CECP exam taken by those attempting to achieve certification for the first time. There is no special renewal exam.
